 Malta will adopt the euro on the 1st January 2008. The EU finance ministers gave the green light on the 10th July 2007 and the conversion rate was fixed at 0.4293 MTL. Malta's journey towards euro adoption was recently lauded by European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet, who described it as "remarkable".
